CURRENTLY READING

The Seven Year Slip

by Ashley Poston

We’re launching the Haus of Hamilton Book Club with one of my favorite reads of 2023: The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston, a magical romance that feels like you’re being wrapped in a warm fuzzy blanket on a cold, rainy day or a great big hug from your favorite person. This love story has you rooting for the main characters from their meet-cute and eagerly turning the next page to see how it all comes together.

What Victoria Loved

VICTORIA’S RATING: 4/5

Things I love: books, food, friends, painting, twists, and a happily ever after. Things this book has: all of the above and more! Ashley Poston breathed life into two amazing main characters whose emotions I felt in every inch of my body. From the flutters of new love to the crumple of heartache, I lived every second of this story as much as Clementine and Iwan. The Seven Year Slip is a reminder that love is messy, intense, and complicated. But it also confirms that this complexity is what makes love beautiful.

What the Book Club Loved

  • FIREWORKS & STEAM: 2.5/5

The tension of Clementine & Iwan’s story drew us in and teased us so thoroughly that being limited to a handful of scenes with minimal detail left us slightly disappointed and wanting more.

  • WRITING STYLE: 4/5

Ashley Poston does not disappoint. This story was beautifully written, but we wish it moved a little quicker from the outset.

  • CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT: 4/5

We loved these characters, but we wanted more of Iwan’s experience. We fell so hard that for all we were given, it still felt like a tease.

  • THE LOVE STORY: 4/5

This love story was an instant favorite for many of us. We’ve already recommended the book to our favorite people because everyone can use a little Lemon in their lives.

The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston has very quickly become a go-to book when I need something lighthearted and fun. I loved the culinary theme and really fell in love with the characters and their relationships with one another. Although classically predictable at times, there were enough twists, hints and subtle themes that made it deeper than your average rom-com. I’ve already recommended this book to others and look forward to rereading it many, many times!”

If You Loved The Seven Year Slip, You’ll Love These

  • CHEF + BOOKISH MAIN CHARACTERS: Beard Science by Penny Reid (Amazon)

This is book #3 and my favorite of the Winston Brothers series. If there’s one thing you need to know, it’s that Penny Reid knows how to build a character. Cletus was my leading man front-runner among the Winston siblings, and his story made me swoon!

    VICTORIA’S RATING: 4/5

  • MAGICAL ROMANCE: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (Amazon)

This is where it all started. Can one attribute a love of reading from a single book? Well, at the very least Outlander reminded me how much I enjoyed it. Diana Gabaldon created a world I was truly eager to escape to and characters I couldn’t wait to explore and fall in love with.

    VICTORIA’S RATING: 5/5

  • SECOND CHANCE IN MULTIPLE TIMELINES: Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune (Amazon)

I’m not usually a fan of insta-love romances (which is a bit ironic given I claim to have fallen for James the second I laid eyes on him), but I do believe in the lasting impact of a single encounter.

    VICTORIA’S RATING: 4/5

  • BY THE AUTHOR: The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston (Amazon)

    1) If you read this, you may recognize a character from The Seven Year Slip. 2) Read this. If you’re a book nerd and love the inside-look into the publishing industry, this is a fun one! Dare I say this may actually be my favorite book by Ashley Poston to date?

    VICTORIA’S RATING: 4.5/5

Until the next chapter!
